Baseball is Spring

When the golden sun starts spilling

Cozy warmth on everything

And the daffodils and crocus

Usher in the time of spring.

With blue skies and white clouds piling

Like a citadel on high,

Millions long cooped up by winter

Raise a single, joyous cry.

Ball games are Americana

As Star Spangled Banner’s strains.

“Let’s play ball,” rings from the cities

Echoes down the wind-swept plain.

Pruning, raking, making garden

Starts to put the heart in tune

But the really happy music

Starts the ball game afternoon.
